General Election Results: A New Chapter for GSAÉD
The 2025 General Election for the University of Ottawa Graduate Student Association (GSAÉD) has concluded, and the results are in! Held from March 24 to March 26, 2025, this election saw active participation from the graduate student community, shaping the future leadership and direction of GSAÉD.
Key Election Outcomes
• Student Life and Equity Commissioner: Yael Orset
• University Affairs Commissioner: Steven Yannick Adekambi
• University of Ottawa Board of Governors Representative: Scarlett Kelly won.
• Senate – Humanities: Emeline Lina Nsah.
GSAÉD Board Members:
• Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies: Natalie Bruvels
• Institute of the Environment: Grace McGrenere
• Department of Economics: Fiston Bisimwa
• Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics: Louis Frank
• Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering: Benjamin Hotte
• Faculty of Law: Alawode Babajide Blessing
• School of Information Studies (AÉSISSA): Vanessa Belanger
Levy Proposals
Two levy proposals were also on the ballot:
• The proposal for a new levy of $5.00 per semester for the Student Support Team was rejected
• The proposal to increase the levy for the Ontario Public Interest Research Group to $3.46 per semester was also rejected
These results reflect the collective voice and decision-making of the graduate student community at the University of Ottawa. Congratulations to all the elected representatives, and a big thank you to everyone who participated in the election!
